Getting It.

Whew! I finished up the Extreme Makeover service project at the Promise House this weekend! It was two busy days full of paint, dust, drilling and running around. I went into the weekend full of energy and ready to get started giving these teens an exciting new room. I left the weekend physically exhausted but full of the joy of doing something worthwhile. In total our group of 30 women spruced up 8 rooms that can house 21 teens! All of the spaces were so different but they all looked significantly cleaner and cheerier! Here are the after pics from the room I helped on. To see some more photos go to the Promise House's Facebook page.

Our budget was $180 to complete the overhaul and luckily one of the savvy ladies in our group convinced the amazing people at Sherwin Williams to donate ALL the paint!

Here is what we got for the money:

$60: Three brand new comforters from Target

$20: New curtain from Target. It’s actually a shower curtain onto which I painted a green stripe!

$25: New curtain rod

$36: Three desk lamps with storage from Wal*Mart.

$28: Two blue side tables

$11: Art supplies and clips for pictures (see below)

The new paint color says "Teenager" instead of "Baby Boy" and balances the vivid colors in the existing carpet. We used the pops of color from the carpet for the rest of the room, adding bright blue and green throughout. The new curtain is actually a shower curtain and to add a little more pizazz, we painted the green stripe on the blue patterned background!

Our custom art project of blue and white chevrons adds some graphic punch of color to a smaller wall. Each piece was made by a different team member, so they are all different and add a lot of personality.

Since this is temporary home, we drilled small clips onto the wall so they can change out pictures, drawings or clippings within their space to give it a sense of their own personality. The awesome sketch in the picture was in the room when we started renovating, so we wanted to hang it up for our resident! The black square above the desk is painted in chalkboard paint so they will hopefully not draw on the other parts of the wall! The new lamp is stocked with a full supply of brand new chalk in its organizing cubbies.

Just a little proof that this designer isn't afraid of getting her hands a little dirty! And you better believe I was still peeling paint off my hands for a few days....

Giving It.

Sometimes it's the little things in life that are easily overlooked and that with which we should be the most thankful. A family that loves and supports, enough food to go around, and a roof overhead. At the Promise House, Dallas homeless and runaway teen can find those basic needs. It's a safe place to recover from desperate circumstance and get back on the right track.

So, why I am telling you this? Well, I am volunteering with a group of ladies from the Junior League of Dallas to "Extreme Makeover" the shelter's bedrooms! The time is short and the budget is SMALL but the impact will be great. Here is a before picture of the boys room we are assigned.

The carpet is very patterned and colorful but cannot be changed. There is a really fun chalkboard-paint outline of the Dallas skyline that we are keeping. The paint color is a really depressing blue (a shade I call hospital blue...) and the drapery is pretty much see through. There is a serious lacks of charm. Playroom for Two

I am so excited to be working on another space for children! This time its a Dynamic Duo of twin boys and the space is their playroom. These little men are a little over one which is a great time to hire your first designer and put your stamp on the world! (Ok, their mom technically hired me but we are all working for these Two!)

The home was built in the early 1930's and has a classic style; so we are keeping this room clean and neutral. The room will have a great display area for all things "play" and a daybed for cuddling up with a good book. After all, these are important men that will need to multi-task.

Here are some elevations sketches that I did to show this discerning duo. We are moving quickly on this room, so I should have some progress snap-shots soon!

We are going to place two long shelves that are low enough for the little guys to get direct access to everything fun! Above we'll place the object that require supervision, like special books and art supplies.

I'm reconfiguring the layout of the existing twin size bed to make it more of a day bed. Also we are framing some existing art pieces from the home owner.

From time to time I come across a piece that I would categorize as an "impulse accessory." It has to be under $100 dollars (so it doesn't require any major savings or a family discussion) but also it needs just enough style to make an impact.

Since its almost Valentines Day, I thought we should get a little romantic. Don't get the wrong idea... I already have a handsome Valentine. I'm talking accessories and particularly these fantastic place card holders. They are created by Dallas' own F is for Frank and are perfect for a romantic night in. With different types of kisses called out on the tag, you are sure to let your Valentine know what type of action you are anticipating. (anything from "Eskimo" to "French") They will only set you back $35 a piece! That deserves a Smooch.

Fab 5 on Five: Raising the Bar

Everyone has favorites. The "go to" places or things that are always the right fit for their sensibilities. Designers are no different! If asked, they have a list of favorites for any category in design, whether it's their favorite show stopping sofas or their most coveted accessories.

Below is another installment of a monthly "Fab 5 on Five", a compilation of my favorite things on (or around..) the fifth of each month. I've been asked by another designer recently to help him concept a new bar/restaurant space. We worked together in the past and right now his plate is FULL. In honor of this great rekindling here are my Top 5 Dallas Restaurant Designs. How could I pick with the surplus of amazing options? Well, based on the designs ability to create an atmosphere that gets you excited for the food experience!

Dallas Amuse Bouche Installment:

No. 1: Hattie's in Bishop Art. Fried green tomatoes are served elegantly in the monochromatic space. The room is sun shiny, elegant and crisp.. which partners nicely with some low-country shrimp and grits.


No. 2: Medina Oven and Bar in Victory Park. You would never wonder if the food was bland in a space with this much vibrancy and I'll assure you it is anything but. The furnishing layout is just as cozy as their sharable small plates.. you just might make new friends at the next table.

No. 3: The Oak in the Design District. Tailored and cozy with plenty of understated "Oak" references, you know this is the place to be fabulous while enjoying bites like Duo of Kobe Beef or Celery Root Fries.

No. 4 Bolsa in Bishop Arts. Locally sourced and honest food are what you'll get at Bolsa. The restaurant says to me, "Hey we are hip, but down to earth." Mixing materials in warm hues and exposing the ceiling let you know its time to kick back and enjoy some goat cheese from Dallas Farmers.

No 5: Rise No. 1. on Lovers. The idea of a souffle is light and whimsical. So is Rise. The table is set with antique linen used as napkins, paired with french silver and re-purposed wine bottles as drinking glasses. With this sort of attention to detail, you know your souffle will not "flop!" (check out Hedda Dowd's other en devour, an antique business which sources fantastic tableware pieces from French Chateaus.)

International Inspiration: Thailand II

Especially in comparison to the landscape of Texas, Thailand is a rainbow. Granted you might have to look past some murky water or streets to see it, but that might be part of the reason that it jumps out. Whether is on the buildings, flowers or clothing there was an abundance of color inspiration!

International Inspiration: Thailand Color

From the Royal Grand Palace. Amazing gold and glittery tile with impeccable detailing.

We were able to stop at a floral show that was in honor of the King's birthday. They had a spectacular showing of orchids. I love the tropical pink and yellow with the crisp white on these guys.

Now, people aren't just walking around in these get-ups but they are traditional tribal clothes from the northern regions. Fun patterns in cheerful colors make for very chic tribal ladies.

Marble edging at the Royal Grand Palace is so subtly colored but its a fantastic discovery as you walk past.

The color of fresh and stir fried veggies, spicy red sauces and white and blue plates had me enjoying the meal before my first bite.

I LOVE the color of bright marigold this monk is wearing! I wouldn't make a very good monk but I am terribly envious that they get to wear something so cheerful all day!

International Inspiration: Thailand I

My husband and I decided to kick off the New Year in style by traveling to Thailand to visit family. I had lofty plans of blogging while I was away to keep you guys up to date on my latest inspirations.... but I instead read my book and took in everything! The weather this time of year was WONDERFUL and everyone there did their part to make sure we had an amazing time! Now, it's back to the real world for us....

There was inspiration at every turn, and I always had my camera ready to capture it. I'm going to break the pictures down into groups so its not overwhelming.

International Inspiration: Thailand Architecture

Ancient temple ruin. A series of temple (or Wat) sites were buried with only the top exposed. They have recently been unearthed and they stored treasures ranging from golden Buddha's to Ming Dynasty pottery.

Beautiful Wat with elaborate dragon entrance. All of the detail and color is so striking.

Ancient Chedi that was constructed and then renovated by a few different rulers so the detailing is from different periods and styles... Its also thought to house a gold Buddha.

New Wat that is still under construction by an artist that wants it to be the most beautiful building in the world. Its an amazing statement in its stark white and mirror.

Worn steps at Ayutthaya: the old capitol of Thailand. These steps have been trod upon since 1350.

Ayuttaya Stupa. The texture and coloration on these bricks and statuary is fantastic!

Modern Man Nursery

The little guy that occupies this room has been hanging around for a few months now and he is very excited to share these pictures with you! His mom wanted a cool, calm, and modern room to hang with the Modern Man so we kept all the colors tranquil. I hope you enjoy the images!

Punches of color were added in the tree decal and the fun lumbar pillow. Mixing warm textures in a cool color keeps the room clean and fresh but with an inviting feel. We painted the focal wall a shade darker than the rest to make the white crib pop. Fun accessories like the white animal pottery and mini ghost chair add a playful touch.

Mom wanted to re-purpose an existing chest for a changing table and for storage. It was painted white and received new clear drawer pulls. Family art is always a nice touch in a personal space, so there is a small collection hung over the changing station.

Pull Up A Seat... The Dining Room is Complete

The Hip Family Dining Room is complete and I am so excited to share the pictures with you! It is an elegant and fresh space where the family can entertain and a jaw dropping first impression since it is the first room you see upon arriving to the home. I kept the color scheme monochromatic using different shades of silver but in a variety of textures to keep it special. By introducing pops of color in the art, center piece, and flower arrangements the room gets a little spunk.

The polished table top and metal tones contrast beautifully with the rich velvet and silk tones to keep your eye interested.

The drapery tassel is the beautiful chain I salvaged from the decorative light fixtures! Since the ceiling height is 8 feet, it couldn't be used. Instead they were re-purposed as an unexpected element in the space. For the center piece and art I added a little bit of fun and punchy color to keep the space from feeling too serious. After all this is a REAL family and it needed to reflect the hip youthfulness they exude!

The family wanted a space they could use without worrying about the occasional spill, so everything had to be durable and cleanable. The table top is made out of white quartz which is completely stain/maintenance free and the chairs are covered in a stain resistant fabric that has a rich texture.

Another great pop of color is added with a floral arrangement standing out against the elegant collection of silver, crystal and wood candlesticks. A beautiful multifaceted mirror sets the perfect backdrop while reflecting more light into the space.

The idea of a safe and cozy home is something that most of us count among the blessings of our life. While it may not be totally "finished" (with all of the fancy details we could hope for), we are lucky to have a personal space that can perk us up and welcome us home each day. That is precisely why Lisa Robison founded "Dwell with Dignity" in 2009! Along with co-founder Kim Turner, they decided to pursue their mission of helping families escape poverty and homelessness through design. One household at a time.

Sounds like something you can really get behind, huh? Here's the best part: you can support the cause in a fun and fabulous way! Every quarter Dwell with Dignity is opening a "Pop Up Thrift Store," and the first grand opening is this Saturday, October 1st! Want to feel extra posh? Come tonight for a sneak peak party. Fab 5 on Five : Exterior Spaces

Below is my second installment of a monthly "Fab 5 on Five", a compilation of my favorite things on the fifth of each month. This month it's exterior spaces because the weather is cooling down so it's time to be outside.

Second Installment: Exterior Spaces

What is great about this setting is that it won't break the bank to achieve! Inviting and classic butterfly chairs urge you to gather 'round the fire with friends!

This space is romantic with the worn wooden doors, low rock wall, and the curved glass structure. I imagine a starlit dinner party or a beautiful brunch. Either way you cut it; I want this in my backyard!

Everything about this sings relaxing after an awesome day outdoors.  I love the idea of an outdoor shower and this particular shower can be closed for year-round use.

Advances in exterior products make this scene completely doable without constantly taking furniture inside and out.  Frames could be fabricated from powder coated metal or teak and upholstered in a beautiful exterior fabric.  

Even an image without man-made things like furniture or lighting can still be really inspiring! A manicured drive like this one is great in a neighborhood or for a private entry.

Impulse Accessorizing II

Most of the time there isn't enough money in the budget for a complete overhaul of a home or room and most of the time people would like a little something new to keep their spaces fresh and evolving. A few new accessories on a console, mantle or side table can breath new life into a room without being cost prohibitive.

Second Installment: Indonesian Tin Boxes

I came across these boxes while looking around the Serena and Lily website. I love almost everything they sell; they keep their colors current and their products fresh. These pressed tin boxes come in a set of 5, are on sale for $47.00 and would add a great ethnic vibe to a space! It's a great buy because they could be used in so many different ways. I love the idea of using them together stacked on a side table or separated for smaller spots like a guest bathroom for cotton balls and other amenities. Whether you use them together or spread them around, you are definitely getting your money's worth.

Below is my first installment of a monthly "Fab 5 on Five", a compilation of my favorite things on the fifth of each month.

Installment: Modern Trim

No. 1 Warm Leather Welt Cord by Holly Hunt: Can be used to edge pillows or in between seams on upholstery.  What I think is so great about the leather is that it doesn't have to be rustic; it can feel tailored and modern.

No. 2 Edgy Metal Bouillon Fringe by Kravet Couture: This trim is a modern interpretation of an old school style. Used along the bottom of a sofa gives a floating feel.

No. 3 Elegant Satin Tape Trim by Calvin Klein: The contrast of sheen and tasteful color is what I love about this trim.  Added as a detail to anything in a master bedroom would be tranquil and stunning.

No. 4 Fanciful Feather Fringe by Kravet Couture: This is definitely not for everyone but if you have a little edge to your taste this would be stunning as a top treatment on drapery.


No. 5 Classic Embroidered Tape Trim by Samuel & Sons: The overall feel of the materials is casual but there is an elegance to the pattern that I love. The combination of textures is really special too. I think using this as a detail on drapery or on upholstery would be great.

Appe-teaser

Installation is getting close to completion at the Hip Young Family dining room! Everything is coming together nicely and it is finally starting to look like a real room. We are still waiting on the table base and dining chairs…which is a little funny since it’s a dining room but these things are being special ordered and custom made so they take a little more time. You can’t rush perfection.
To get you excited without giving away ALL of the surprises, here is ONE progress shot! We are draping the entire wall that separates the dining room from the “kids table” in the adjacent room. To add a dramatic punch of color to the tonal room, I framed two intensely colored photographs and “floated” them in front of the drapery. It adds a lot of interest and an extra layer to the space. I’m in love with it, so I had to share!

One of the best parts about my job is sourcing objects for people's spaces because I get to pop into great stores in Dallas to peruse their latest wares. I always snap pictures of my favorite objects with my cell camera so that I can share quickly! These are some top Finds:

Flipped It Good!

So, the house that I helped flip is officially on the market! To me that is officially job done, and when it sells... officially job WELL done! I won't take all the credit for the success of this remodel... after all Jim is the mastermind and I just make sure it all looks great! Check out these before and after pictures! Prepare to be amazed! .... Well hopefully anyway!

Front Facade Before: Outdated with fussy iron detail and oversized easter basket.

Front Facade After: I selected a paint for the brick that would tone down the color of the roof. Jim cleaned up the landscaping and updated the hard scape to modernize the home.

Entry Before: Low ceilings make the space feel cramped.

Entry After: With the ceiling raised and a decorative niche this is a much better first impression.

Family Room Before: Dated and worn out finishes.

Family Room After: Clean and fresh are the words that come to mind for this updated space. We got rid of the tacky red wet bar, and cleaned up the fireplace surround.

Formal Living Before: Closed off and old fashioned.

Great Room After: Jim completely opened up the room between the formal living room and the kitchen. To me this is now the Great Room... Perfect for entertaining in current times.

Kitchen Before: Pink oven! and closed off.

Kitchen After: Close up to the modern design. Glass tile back splash with a white counter top, dark stained cabinetry, and multi colored glass tile back splash. Great contrast and totally updated!

Hall Bath Before: Patriotism? Or just plain bad taste?

Hall Bath After: Does this even need a description? Totally updated and a place you'd be proud for your guests to see.

Master Bath Before: Metallic butterfly wall paper and cramped.

Master Bath After: Shower and Bath combo. An excellent solution for the tight spaces of an older home. We used a great neutral and simple porcelain tile with a clean blue glass accent tile.

Master Bath After: Double sink and storage... something every master bath needs!

Mater Bath After: Beautiful light glazing the walls make the master shower extra special!

Concept Dining

I've been working the last few weeks to get a solid concept for the Hip Family Dining Room. We've looked high and low for pieces that not only look fabulous together but can stand the test of time. This couple knows their style, so they are excited to acquire things that can live happily ever after with them for years to come. Durability and timelessness are at the front of our minds when we are making selections and we've been able to pull some great items together. Take a look at our process:

First Things First! Laying out the floor plan is crucial in making sure everything is going to fit and function. This room will seat 8 people very comfortably at a custom stone table and it has extra storage in a console along the wall. A little drama is added with two pendants over the dining table, decorative wall scones, and potted plants! A large area rug finishes everything off by added texture and warmth.

While I'm making selections, I create a concept page so everything is in one spot.... because eventually everything WILL be in one spot. It is critical to continually see everything together, for me and for the client.

We want this space to be elegant, clean and transitional! We are keeping it pretty monochromatic, using tones of silver, white and grey. For youthful interest we are adding punches of color around the room in the form of art and accessories. Texture, contrast and light will also play a huge roll in making this space special.

I sketched a perspective for this space because I wanted the client to see how I planned for everything to come together!

We've had the contractor busy at work adding light switches! Moving plugs! Adding junction boxes in the ceiling and wall! Painting! Adding moulding to the ceiling! So.... things are really coming together!! When we get a little further along I'll post some progress shots!

True Love!

You know you are really in love when your heart races when they're around... You can't imagine your life without them... And all you want is more! No, I'm not talking about men... this is a design blog after all.... I'm talking about Weitzner Wallcovering!

I was out looking for some wall covering yesterday so I made a stop at my "go-to" showroom, The ID Collection. They carry some of my favorite lines... Including my favorite wall paper. Paper back stone! These thin slices of stone give you beauty of exotic stone, with the ease of wallcovering installation. This has hotel reception wall written all over it!

Upcycled newspaper creates a casual and green style. I think this would be fun in a kids craft room, company break room, or anywhere else that doesn't have too take itself to seriously.

Paintable plaster paper. Beautiful raised plaster designs that can be painted to any color. Could be great on your walls, applied to boards like art panels, or even inset into paneling on furniture.

Magnetic Wall Covering! Has the look of linen but the functionality of a cork board- Great for a clean office.

Paper made from South American tree bark had an airiness. Great sandwiched between glass on a table top, or as a room divider . I'd love to see it on a ceiling inset! Shown here are the three different colors available.

Setting the Table

Well, anyone who knew me in design school or really anyone who has been to a design studio knows that the creative process isn't usually a tidy one. I typically pride myself in an orderly home, but as soon as I start a project..... my creativity explodes. Ironically as I create a sophisticated and clean space for a dining room, I have completely covered mine with images, fabric/paint swatches and catalogs (don't worry my fancy candle sticks are still there just to remind me to not get out of hand!)

Since mine is in temporary disarray, I pulled out a few of my favorite dining table shots to keep me on the straight and narrow! Hope you enjoy!

Perfect for outdoor casual entertaining. I love the mix of the colors and the warm candle light!

Crisp and simple but far from boring. I would have loved a textured vase for those flowers though!

This table cloth has all the right pizazz! The white and red accessories on the table are the perfect finishing touch.

The colors in this image don't drive me wild, but i think this could be a great holiday place setting. Especially if you could incorporate a seating arrangement on the ribbon somehow.

Dining on an Empty Stomach... I mean... Room

I just started work on an EMPTY dining room that will soon become a posh hangout for a Hip Young Family. They bought their home a few years ago and have yet to tackle the space, which happens to be directly adjacent to their front door. I'm thrilled to have been enlisted to whip this "Empty Cave" into "Chic First Impression!" I'll post before pictures early next week, but to wet your whistle here are some concept photo's from the client.... Oh how I love a Hip Family with good taste!


After our first meeting, we decided that this would be our direction because of the inviting look and warm contrast.

We are going to do a custom stone top table for the space! I love all the details in this image... Great mix of textures, styles and materials.

The enviornmental movement has really taken off in the past few years. With this insurgence, there has also come so many chic ways to be green! While I personally think its fabulous to make small changes daily that can help save our environment, why not apply some of those same ideas to make your interiors more fabulous too! There is a certain panache associated with surrounding yourself with things that have been around for longer than you have, so using reclaimed or repurposed items can add instant character to a space.... and you also get the extra feel good vibe for doing something good!

Here are some great finds around Dallas and beyond:

Re-purposed wine bottles as wine tumblers. Not only does this restaurant use them in their daily service, but they sell them on site too!-Rise

These architectural artifacts were salvaged from the ruins of old houses in India. Definitely adds an old world touch... makes me wish things were still made like this for everyday use! -Wisteria

A limited edition pendant fixture made from a cache of vintage holophane glass salvaged from a Connecticut aeronautics factory. This company also has a green philosophy that they apply to their manufacturing practice. Extra feel good points here! -Remain's Lighting

One of the BEST ways... in my very humble opinion... to refresh a room is to splash some new pillows around. I was on the hunt for some blue and white bedding today and stumbled across some fantastic threads from West Elm! They are bright, they are modern, and they are affordable... Thank you West Elm!

Color Me Pretty OR Color Me Bad?

Brendan and I got back about 3 weeks ago from St. Lucia (sigh...can I go back?) After looking around at the brightly painted buildings, it really got me thinking about what shapes our perceptions on color. Why do some cultures/regions of people have an affinity for brightness while others tend toward neutrals? You don't need to travel far and wide to see these differences, I think you could easily look around the United States different regions, or the different cultural hubs around your city. Mind you... I haven't come up with an answer to these questions! For goodness sake, I'm an interior designer not an anthropologist.

I'm working with my friend and builder, Jim Womble of Savannah Custom Homes, to complete a quick remodel of a Dallas Gem! He and I first worked together when Brendan and I renovated our home. Then last year we remodeled another home he'd purchased for resale. Jim has the uncanny ability to see a homes hidden potential... and in the case of this project it was hidden behind granny shag carpet, terrifying butterfly wallpaper and garish pops of red. He's about halfway through the remodel, which is where I come in! Jim has the style he wants to achieve and I help him pull it all together with the finishes. We are in the process of selecting the flooring materials, paint colors, and counter tops to transform from granny to modern. Here are some before pictures!

Caution: If baby pink appliances and metallic wall covering make you nauseous... turn back while you still can!

I'm working with a Mom-To-Be to design a nursery for her Baby Boy. She has an awesome sense of style herself.... very modern and clean. So it's no surprise that when we talked about what this room could be, clean and contemporary were at the forefront. We've been working quickly to get this thing together because Modern Boy will be here in a few short months.. and he needs a (stylish) place to lay his head.

Right now the room is a blank slate, except for great hardwood floors, a huge closet and a re-purposed dresser that will double as a changing station. Mom-To-Be painted the dresser white, and had clear vinyl pulls made at a leather worker... what a great idea! Check back for completed pictures of that.

Before Pictures:

Since a nursery really is a space for the parents, we wanted to set a calming mood. Once we had some of the larger items selected, I created a mood board for us to work from. Its a great way to see everything together and determine how its all working. Mom-To-Be found a modern glider and crib at Baby Bliss, so we had GREAT bones to work with. We then selected two silvery gray paint finishes, the darker of which will go on the crib wall to create a crisp contract between the white crib and white tree wall applique. We then went for a rug. Anyone that's been around a new baby knows.... clean ability is key when it comes to their surroundings. SO, we decided to go with a modular carpet tile from FLOR to create a grey and blue striped rug. If any of the durable tiles gets annihilated by any array baby mess, they can just be replaced.

Furniture arrangement was pretty simple. I arranging the pieces so there can be a direct B-Line path from the hallway door to the crib.... because we don't need any obstacles that will surely induce a late night "trip." We placed a larger "tip proof" table to set next to the glider so Mom-To-Be and Modern Boy can keep everything they need in arms reach.

A Designers Work is Never Done...

We've lived in our house for about a year and a half and it seems like a designer's work is never done, especially when it comes to my own house. I started by mixing my funky, modern, girl stuff, with Brendan's rustic, traditional, boy stuff which I think has given us a comfortable and fun style. As I've navigated our style and room furnishings, I keep a plan for the future in mind because we can't complete everything at once!

The newest addition to the funky/rustic 1930's house is a FANTASTIC console that I designed and had built by a great craftsman in Dallas - Joseph Shortell. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment... if you are anything like me you can stare at its sleek simplicity...all...day...long!

Since we needed something that could fit our unique mix of tastes, I chose to use solid walnut for the body and a bookmatch walnut for the doors. The pronounced grain of the wood, coupled with the sleek lines make it something that works for both of us...which you might imagine is a tall order!

I ordered the hand antiqued hardware from House of Antique Furniture. Brass is timeless, especially in a rubbed finish (not the scary shiny finish circa 1992! eek)

We made the doors so that they will fold completely back to make it easy to access the full length of the shelf without having to contort into an acrobat to make it fit. We also finished out the interior with maple wood since it is much less expensive than the walnut! The whole piece has a wax finish to let the natural tone of the wood come through.

Next on the agenda...accessorizing!

Thank you retailers of America for finally designing a recliner that can satisfy a man's desire for a comfortable place to recline AND a woman's desire to have a beautiful living space! Here is a great example that I came across today from Room and Board! It can be ordered in a few different colors, and at that price... it's definitely cheaper than couples counseling :)
